Thursday 20th April 2023 – RAF Club, Piccadilly.
The 2023 Spring Guest Night on 20th April saw us return to one of our favourite and most prestigious venues – the RAF Club in Piccadilly, London.
Almost 70 Old Friends and guests met in the Churchill Bar for a champagne reception before a fine dinner in the Sovereign Room where the atmosphere was terrific, the food, wine and service excellent, and the company outstanding.
Our Honoured Guest this year was Beth Tweddle MBE, Britain’s greatest-ever female gymnast who has won medals at major competitions all over the world, including over 20 Gold medals.
From the moment Beth arrived she made herself one of us – effortlessly mixing with Old Friends and guests alike.
Her speech was inspirational. Beth won many medals at Commonwealth Games and World Championships, including 20 Gold, but an Olympic Medal proved to be elusive. Having narrowly missed out at Athens (2004) and Beijing (2008), the latter by just 0.025 of a point, she delayed retirement to try once more, at London 2012 where she succeeded in winning a Bronze Medal in front of a home audience.
Beth brought this actual medal to the evening and most Old Friends and guests took advantage of the opportunity to be photographed with our very special guest and her medal before she headed home, one of the last to leave a very pleasant and memorable evening.
Let us now look forward to the next Guest Night on 19th October.
