WHAT ARE THE RULES?

Interestingly, it was at the 18th meeting of the Society of Old Friends, that the Society adopted its first set of rules. Prior to that, rules had been considered unnecessary, and to this day, they are kept simple and to a minimum.

The current rules have been circulated to all members in a hard copy format. The Society holds its Annual General Meeting every April during which amendments can be voted upon.

You can view a copy of the Rules of the Society of Old Friends here: Rules-2018

WHAT’S EXPECTED OF YOU?

As a small Society with a restricted membership, it is expected that members will try to attend all events, and as a minimum, commit to attend two events per year, one of which should be a Society dinner.

Members who propose or second the nomination of others to membership retain a responsibility to encourage their nominees to attend events and where possible to bring guests.

As a long established society with a proud history, all members are asked to support however they can. The Society belongs to them, and the committee is elected to do its best on behalf of all members. Willing volunteers are rarely turned away and ideas, offers of support such as printing, postage, marketing collateral or event sponsorship are always welcome.

WHAT IS A BOOKPLATE?

A bookplate, also known as ex-librīs [Latin, “from the books of…”], is usually a small print or decorative label pasted into a book, often on the inside front cover, to indicate its owner, coat-of-arms or in the case of The Society, the motto “Forsake not an Old Friend” … wise words indeed!
