London Clachan – May 2018

London Clachan: May 24th – The Washington, London

There was a new venue for the first Clachan of 2018, Martha’s Bar at The Washington, conveniently located between 3 Tube Stations, all of which were a decent walk away and seemingly all uphill! Martha’s Bar was downstairs, accessed by a staircase hidden behind a false wall, disguised as book shelves! It was a very good venue, private to the Old Friends, with space to spread out and there was plenty of networking going on throughout the evening! The food was very good, the baked brie with crusty bread going down particularly well.

At the committee meeting prior to the Clachan, Alex Dunn and Richard Lockley of Superstat and Chris Exner had membership requests approved and we look forward to seeing them at an event soon.

The Old Friends were pleased to acknowledge Andy Wagg, 25 years a member, who is retiring and will be moving to Country Membership. He does so with our best wishes for a long and happy retirement.

The President also sent the very best wishes of the Committee and all Old Friends to Hon. Secretary Tina Russell, who those present were stunned to hear had suffered a heart attack earlier in the day. Subsequent to the event, the President has been in contact with Tina and is delighted to report that she is feeling fine and believes that she will be back on top after a couple of weeks of rest. At this point, I feel safe to add… “The things that some people will do to avoid talking the minutes at a committee meeting!”

The raffle was won by Old Friend Mark Wilkinson.

The next confirmed event is the Autumn Dinner which will be held at the Hilton Hotel, Tower Bridge on Friday 28th September. This promises to be another great night in the tradition of Old Friends Dinners and members are recommended to book early!

Although please keep an eye out for details of the Brummie event, that takes place on 9th August.
